What’s Website Flipping
Just like you might flip real estate, website flipping means you flip a website for a profit. You start by buying or building a site, then you fix it up, and lastly, sell it for profit.
It’s a pretty simple concept and you can rinse and repeat to make an unlimited amount of income doing it!
What’s it like to Flip Websites
Flipping websites is both rewarding and fun, not to mention, very lucrative. It’s fulfilling to build something up from scratch then sell it for more than you put into it. It’s fun too!
Getting started is so simple, it’s very beginner-friendly and you can do this at your own pace, making a nice part time or full time income.
How to Get Started
First, you buy or build a site.
Which route to go? It really depends on you. If you want to try your hand at buying a site, there are several factors to look at. First, the benefit of buying is that you will have a leg up by managing an established site. Starting from ground zero is just that, you start from ground up to build something out of nothing.
By buying a site, you skip this introductory period and can get started with an already existing site.
There are some caveats to this though. First, it will be more expensive. You can build a site (the alternative) for under $50. Buying a site will likely start at around $100 and go up from there.
Next, just because you are buying an existing site does not mean it’s a good site. It could have Google penalties against it, it could have grown using unsustainable methods which may stop once you take over. There are a ton of things that can go wrong.
If you know what to look for, it’s a great opportunity. But, if you don’t know much about websites, ranking, traffic, PBNs, etc. If you don’t know what questions to ask up front, buying a site might be more trouble than it’s worth.
So that leads you to…
Building a Site
Building a site is so much fun. You can get super affordable hosting at around $3/month with a ton of perks like free domain, domain email, marketing offers and more. We highly recommend Bluehost!
They are A+ and I’ve used them so many times for my website flips.
After you get hosting, sync of WordPress, which you can do easily with Bluehost’s 1-click install, you’ll start creating the outline of your site.
Here are some things you might add:
- Blog posts
There are a lot of components you can include.
Once your site is built, you’re going to monetize it!
Monetizing the Site
This means you’re going to make it profitable. Your site does not have to be income-producing to be flipped for a profit, but it certainly helps, and will aid in getting you a quick sale.
You can monetize in many ways:
- Affiliate marketing
Ads are like passive income for your site. You sign up with an ad provider, like Google Adsense. Adsense is free, by the way. Then, you’ll get a code that you install on your site.
That’s literally it!
When visitors click your ads on the site, you’ll earn money.
They don’t have to buy or sign up or do a trial. Nothing like that. You get paid on the click! How cool, right?
Next up, products. Product income is the money you earn from selling your own products. This income category is the most lucrative. You can create products to serve many needs, physical and digital.
Some examples of physical products:
- Coffee mugs
Some examples of digital products:
You create your product, then sell to your website audience. That’s all there is to it!
Services are the next way to make money from your site. If you have skills, you can monetize them to make money. You offer your skills to your website audience and earn income in the process.
Some services you might offer:
- Social media management
- Graphic design
Sponsorships are income category #4. Sponsors are brands that pay you to talk about them on your website. They do this because they want to reach your audience and get sales, while building up their consumer base.
You might have seen bloggers talk about a cookie company or do a video demonstration using a food prep kit. These are sponsorships.
Sponsorships can be very lucrative, fetching three to five figures or more.
They are usually reserved for more established sites with built out audiences. Our advice is, if you get at least 5,000 page views and have a minimum of 1,000 combined social media followers for your website, then you can try reaching out to sponsors.
We bundled our best practices, tips and advice into 2 really cool eguides. They include templates, scripts, how to contact brands and a list of 50 companies that are friendly to bloggers that you can contact to arrange paid sponsorship!
Lastly, we have affiliate marketing income. If you are an affiliate and refer products to your readers, that result in a sale, you’ll earn a commission at no additional cost to the buyer.
For example, if you are a sock affiliate (commission of 20%) and you refer a sock brand and a visitor buys 4 pairs of socks totaling $100 then, you just earned $20!
It might not sound like a lot but if you consider ALL the brands you can rep as an affiliate and the varying commissions, you could earn a CEO’s salary just in affiliate income.
Building up the traffic, growing an email list, building up social media following and other things go into the flipping process as well! If you’d like to give this a try, join us!
