Five Figures Per Month Blogging? Heck yes…
Interested to hear how I earned five figures blogging last month? It was NOT without a lot of hard work, sweat, tears, and stress. Believe me, it’s not like this every month but May was a super freakin’ busy month. I got a lot done and I made a lot of money. Here’s how I did it…
Making $10,000+ Blogging Last Month
Ok, so as a blogger, you can earn money. You can earn a little or a lot, and everything inbetween. The vast MAJORITY of bloggers hardly make a part time income, let alone a full time income. For those that succeed as full timers, they got there with a lot of hard work, time, and sometimes luck.
The Hard Work in Blogging
It takes dedication to start this blogging thing in the first place, then stick with it, during times when you see little to no traffic and little to no income. If you continue on, you will be rewarded by the fruits of your labor.
Here’s what I mean by hard work:
- The time to research keywords for blog posts
- The time to write keyword-rich, engaging long form blog posts
- The time and effort to promote your posts
- The energy to create and post to your social media outlets to create an audience
- The time, energy and effort to grow your subscriber list, traffic, audience, and income
- And much, much more
And with all this, in the end, just because you work hard, doesn’t mean you will be successful. Unfortunately, that’s how it goes sometimes. But, your chances will fare FAR BETTER if you put your all into it and work hard.
The Time Requirement of Blogging
Many say (including myself) that you can blog in just 2 hours a week. You definitely can BUT if you put more time into it, you will grow at a faster pace and earn more money. A favorite blogger of mine in the personal finance space makes around $10K per month and puts in 40 to 50 hours/week AND she’s a student as well.
To make best use of your time, take advantage of these hacks I personally use:
- Do time blogging
- Try batch blogging
- Set a timer
- Take days off to rest and reenergize
Consider doing some A/B testing with your time. Wait..it’s not as complicated as it sounds. Here’s an example: Work 2 hours per week and measure your success. How much did you get done? How many articles did you write? How many social media posts did you put out? Then, the next week try 4 hours work on your blog and measure the results. Then compare the two. Pretty cool, huh? Try this!
Sometimes you get lucky
Yes, there is luck in everything, even blogging. Like going viral. Sometimes you get lucky. You never know what people are going to obsess about and it could be your latest post! On a former blog, I had a post go mini viral. It helped me reach nearly 100K page views in the first month the blog was launched! And, I made almost $1,000 that month alone as well as nearly $13K in the first 60 days! Crazy, right?
Stuff like that can happen. You can’t time it. You can’t predict it. You can’t plan for it. It’s just luck. This can happen to you.
Ok, so how did I make ten grand last month?
Here’s the breakdown…
Products and Services $4522
The products I sell are digital and include my ebook and my course that went along with the blog. The ebook was actually a mini guide about blog sponsorships and sold at around $10 to $18, depending if a sale was happening (sales were frequent). The course was about sponsorships as well and sold at $18 to $47, depending on sale.
I offer a variety of services. Some are tied to my blogs and some are not. The service income included was tied to the blog. Some examples of freelance services I offer include:
- Content creation (copywriting)
- Social media management
Affiliate marketing $153
These are the commissions I earned for products and services I promoted. I promote a variety of products. The ones that pay the best are usually blogger-created courses and ebooks. The blog is pretty new so I expect affiliate commissions to fall in the three figure range for a while.
Nearly a whopping $200 on ads! How did I do it? I place ads strategically throughout my site. I use a plugin to automate placements and I drive as much traffic as possible to my pages and posts. I struggle with ad income. You usually don’t see ad earnings in the thousands until you reach 10,000 or more daily page views and I am just not there yet. Still..super happy with these results.
I have found an amazing system of sourcing and working with sponsors that helps me earn four figures quickly and get paid fast! I have talked about this before and have created ebooks and courses around it. If you wanna learn more, check out Sponsorship Blogging for Newbies, to learn my secret tactics for making what I’d call a killing (on a new blog) in sponsorship income.
Website Sale $4,160
If you don’t know this about me, I sell sites! This is how it goes: I create a site. Then I style it, add content, grow it, monetize it, and finally sell it. I’ve been doing this for 2 years and have earned six figures doing so. It’s a lot of fun, let’s me get my creative juices flowing and a nice side hustle that I think I’ll pursue for many years in the future.
This was my second sale of the year (my first sale was for $5,500) and brought on a lot of the service income (shown above) that I shared.
If you’re interested in starting a business as a website flipper like me, check out my course Website Flippers University where I show you how to start, grow, monetize and flip a blog for profit! We go at it full force for 3 months, sell, then start all over again! Check it out.
There you have it! My income for May 2018. I want to mention that this income is from one blog only (I have several blogs) and does not include ALL of my blogging and freelance income, just the income from the blog. That blog did sell in May for a price I’m super happy about. Don’t forget to check out my course if you’d like to start a summer side hustle in website flipping!
